FORMATION

Along with spiritual discernment of God’s will, an in-depth study of the teachings of Christ and His Church is a critical part of becoming Catholic. Romans 12:2 speaks of this connection between intellectual formation and knowing God’s plan: “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Within your OCIA timeline, you’ll learn—and sometimes wrestle with—the tenets of the Catholic faith. Study will lead you beyond the classroom, enabling you to freely and fully participate in the Church’s worship and to experience God’s grace as communicated through the teachings of the Catholic Church. With the Eucharist at the center of all theological instruction, the seven sacraments will serve as anchors for explaining doctrine, Christian anthropology, and the cosmic vision of God’s love in Christ Our Savior.
